About Me

Ian
Arcata, CA
Hi, my name is Ian Davidson and I make musical instruments. My main focus these days is on hybrid electric/acoustic banjos, but I also dabble in guitars and travel instruments. My interest in electric banjos grew organically from the fact that I play banjo in a loud band and also worked for a well-known banjo maker for 7 years. Awhile ago I started to envision what, to me, would be the ultimate banjo. It would have to be lightweight, ergonomic and easy to play. It would have a good banjo tone when played acoustically and when plugged in it would be clear, powerful, able to keep up with a loud band, feedback-resistant, and inspire the player to take their banjo playing in new and exciting directions. Oh, and it would look really cool too. I've spent the last few years working on this vision and now offer this blog as a way to share my results and progress with all interested. Thanks for checking it out, please leave comments and feel free to email me at idinstruments@gmail.com
